The Chosen:
I Have Called You by Name
BY
JERRY B. JENKINS
The movie series The Chosen has been well received not only by our country but around the world. The creators of this movie have attempted to dramatize the life of Jesus to help people see the reality of having relationships with Jesus and putting things into a real life experience. It has made a big impact on those who see it. Jerry Jenkins has written a book developing and shaping the first 8 episodes into a fast-paced novel. The book is called The Chosen with a subtitle: I Have Called You by Name. Simon, the rebellious fisherman, Matthew the despised tax collector, Mary the tortured soul, among many others were called by name. I have not seen much of this movie series but was captivated by the written words and believe it will be worth reading for many of you and even for those who have seen the series, it may give a new dimension to appreciate the story of Jesus more than before.
The gospel story of Jesus touches us in whatever situations we are, with hurts and hopes as He calls us to follow His call. The calling of His early followers was full of mixed feelings, doubts and uncertainty, and messy places, so the lives of these New Testament people were challenged in unusual ways. Jerry Jenkins writes in a way you can almost see the drama, and although this book is not currently in our library, I encourage you to get it and be impacted by this well-written book. The familiar stories of the gospels come into real life, and it is good for our Western way of thinking to get a different perspective. Watching a drama is some people’s favorite way, and some of us appreciate the written word. Enjoy reading this book and be encouraged to be thankful for the amazing truth of Jesus coming to us.
